APPLE CUP 2010: Time To Exorcise Some Demons – CougCenter

October 28th, 2006.  It's my senior year at Washington State.  I'm sitting in my house with some friends watching the Cougs take on UCLA.  DeMaundray Woolridge rumbles for a game clinching touchdown that gives the Cougs their sixth win of the year, making them bowl eligible with three games to play.  My friends and I are making bowling motions.  I declare that it is nice to finish my college career the same way it started, with a good Cougar football team. Fast forward three weeks to November 18th, 2006.  The Cougs come into the Apple cup having lost their previous two games and will actually require won more win to guarantee a trip to a bowl.  Situation sound familiar? It is exactly what the Huskies face today (Except for the fact that they are trying to get to 6 wins, and will go to a high-profile, decent payout bowl if they do.

Joe Manganiello Does ‘Cosmopolitan’ Magazine

True Blood star Joe Manganiello is featured in the current issue of Cosmopolitan magazine in a pull-out poster that is meant to be tacked up onto your wall for admiring thruout the cold Winter months. Any shirtless sight of Mr. Manganiello is worth a look-see, wouldn’t you agree? Le sigh. The man does make a [...]

A new batch of previously unseen promo photos of popstar-turned-actress Christina Aguilera have made their way to the Internets and they are … interesting … to say the least. The photos were shot by Andrew Macpherson and feature a relatively fresh-faced Xtina. The pics are worth checking out, especially since Xtina is not wearing her garish trademark red lipstick.

Thank the sweet baby Jebus that Macpherson got Xtina to pose without all the red lipstick. I think she looks a million times better when her make-up is light. To be honest, some of these photos are cheesy as Hell … but they’re not bad. Macpherson photographed some of the promo photos for Burlesque (including the official movie poster) as well as shoots for Natalie Portman, P!nk, Britney Spears and others. These photos are fun … playful … and much better than many of Xtina‘s other promo photos. What do y’all think … do you like?

The usually testy actor Gerard Butler was especially testy in Miami, FL yesterday when he decided to go all crazypants on a paparazzi photographer who was taking photos at the Art Basel Miami event at the Miami Convention Center yesterday afternoon … take a look:

Thankfully Gerard did NOT take a page from the Russell Crowe playbook (who got himself into a bit of trouble a few years ago when he went all Naomi Campbell on a poor unsuspecting hotel concierge when he assaulted him with a telephone). As you can see, Gerard had a phone handy and managed to refrain from hurling the device at the offending photog. Good Gerry, good boy. Still … Mr. Butler may want to get that temper in check a bit better … he doesn’t really want to join the Naomi Campbell/Russell Crowe Phone Club, now does he?

It turns out that music is one of the things that is tying together generations as traditions evolve over time and continue to emerge. Those who love to listen to it often have favorite groups, bands or singers that they prefer and one of the best things about these modern times is that we now have a far greater ability to share the tunes that we love with those around us.

Before the age of Internet, the only two ways you could learn to play the guitar were: you could go to an instructor, a instrument teacher and pay him to teach you chords and melodies, or you could purchase manuals and learn from those. There were no video tutorials available for free or instantly, so imagine how lucky you are, if you want to learn to master the instrument!

Christina Aguilera Does ‘People’ Magazine

For the past couple of days we’ve been reading excerpts from Christina Aguilera‘s new interview with People magazine wherein she first talked about and confirmed her new romantic relationship with Matthew Rutler and then about the demise of her marriage. Today, we get to see a couple new photos of Xtina from her People magazine [...]

I really hope little Satyana Hannigan-Denisof isn’t reading Pink is the new Blog today because I’m afraid her Xmas morning but get spoiled. Saty‘s mommy Alyson Hannigan was spotted in Beverly Hills, CA this week doing a bit of Xmas shopping for her little darling and as you can see, it looks like Santa Claus will be bringing Satyana a cute little tricycle on Xmas morning:

Now, I know that this little bike isn’t technically a tricycle (due to the four wheels) but for all intents and purposes, let’s just call it a trike. I imagine it is a lot of fun for Alyson to shop for her little girl on birthdays and Xmases. I can only imagine how ADORABLY cute Satyana will look on Xmas morning when she wakes up to an Xmas tree loaded with presents with her name on them. Mebbe if we’re lucky we’ll get to see photos in the future of Satyana taking her new tricycle out for a spin after Xmas!

Top 5 Acoustic Guitar Solos of All Time

Without a doubt the electric guitar is one of the most interesting instruments to date and does contain some very interesting electric guitar facts and knowledge that people are not aware of especially considering those that play the instrument. This lovely instrument has been around for decades and has improved along the way. The first large guitar brands that came in were Gibson Les Paul and also Fender.

Is A $3 Million Super Bowl Ad Irresponsible?

These days everyone accuses the mainstream news outlets of bias. Fox News, as we know, is perceived to be the benchmark for conservative news broadcasting. On the other hand, MSNBC has evolved, particularly within the past few years, as the liberals' direct response to Fox News. On the web, we find the Drudge Report on one side and the Huffington Post on the other. And, of course, we can not forget the real or perceived biases associated with the rest of the "liberal media", such as the New York Times, CNN, and whoever else.

Develop a Deep Voice You Can Be Proud Of

It seems that the modern rockabilly band lineup most commonly includes only a singer/lead guitarist, an upright bass player, and a drummer. This sparse lineup has everything you need: drums for the beat, bass for the bottom (and the slapping style also augmenting the drummer's beat), guitar to fill out the rhythm and take the lead, and vocals. With the right people handling the instruments, that combo can create wonderful music. But is that really the "authentic" rockabilly lineup?

Welp, another Valentine’s Day is in the History books. David and decided to keep things nice and boring here at home for VD yesterday because we are planning to celebrate our 5 year anniversary on Thursday night ahead of a week-long trip to NYC next week and a 2 week-long trip to Berlin, Germany the following week. BUT, while we decided to stay home last night … we did manage to find a way to make our night in worthwhile.

Chocolate, strawberries and champagne paired with Tabatha’s Salon Take Over and RuPaul’s Drag Race and we had a perfect night together. I know, I know … a lot of other couples like to go big on VDay but it’s not what we’re really into. For the most part, David and I enjoyed one of our regular ol’ Monday nights together … which was just fine for the both of us … because we like to celebrate our lurve all year long ;)

I have to start preparing for our trip so I have a lot of laundry and packing in my evening plans for tonight. The weather has gotten gloomy here in SoCal and it’s supposed to rain. Blah. Hope it’s sunny wherever you are today ;D

The Legend That Is Gibson Les Paul Guitars, A Reply to the Telecaster

This article is about two things that are quite rare for artists to have, Honesty and a Heart of Gold. Kellie Pickler's childhood was not very pleasant but she managed to overcome that by keeping a positive attitude. Her rock of ages was her grandmother and grandfather who gave her much love and support especially through those always difficult teenage years. Kellie's song titled "My Angel" pays tribute to her grandmother. Her songwriting is simply put but gets the message out.

Motivating Your Child to Play the Piano Without Punishment Or Bribery

After 60 years, rock music has grown in many directions. Several forms of rock and roll have emerged over the years only to remain popular for a few years and then fade away into obscurity--musical fads that made some noise and then went quietly away. Rockabilly music very nearly suffered this same fate, but it was kept alive and now thrives once again. This unique brand of rock and roll truly will never die!

Analog Music Just for Oldies?

I have always loved Epiphone guitars. For me, they have always epitomised cool tunes and even cooler players. One of my first recollections of a seeing a song performed on the TV was the Beatles at Shea Stadium, their last ever live gig (unless you include the top of the Apple building in London, where Lennon also played an Epiphone Casino) where John and George both played these iconic instruments. I didn't realise that they were, in fact, the same guitar but the 1969 version having the sunburst finish removed.

Another Analog to Digital Exodus The World of DJing

Jazz has always been revered as a very colorful classification of music. You travel to another world when you listen to jazz. Jazz originated in New Orleans, LA in the early 1910s considerably due to the African-American residents. A combination of blues, ragtime, folk, and other types of music, jazz materialized as a kind of mimicry of European music of the age. Giving birth to numerous deviations over the years, jazz revolutionized the music stage in the south forever, employing brass, string, and percussion instruments.

Rhythm and Blues Music Primed the Pump For the Rockabilly Revolution

I guess it's probably been this way since music was first invented. The older generation doesn't understand the younger generation's music. I laugh at myself these days when I hear myself saying to my kids, "Why don't you turn that crap off and listen to some real music?" My parents said it to me and their parents said it to them. This is one respect in which rockabilly was similar to many musical genres before it. The difference was that rockabilly ignited that emotion in the parents and high-society types in a much stronger way than other types of music had before or have since.
