The 80's weren't a great time for the piano in rock. Synthesizers had grown up and were dominating everything. The piano was a keyboard that could make one sound while a synthesizer could make thousands so our friend the piano took a back seat to it's offspring in the 80's. The piano wasn't totally ignored though, it got an unlikely boost from a guitar band, and creative keyboardists were still keeping the old boy around as part of the arsenal of keyboards.
